Look around, how many devices can you count that employ Artificial Intelligence? Well, you’re using one of them right now and there are countless other gadgets that you had no idea would utilize Artificial Intelligence.

AI AND ITS EVOLUTION

Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. The evolution of technology has automated our daily lives by making us more efficient and comfortable. These technologies have already significantly changed the patterns of life, thus making the standard evolution considerably fast.

People of all physical strengths and capabilities can live healthy and fruitful lives which makes it possible for their mental genes to mutate and create a much more superior result.

Nowadays, people, regardless of which sector they are a part of, cannot go anywhere without coming in contact with Artificial Intelligence. This interaction may range from simple websites incorporating virtual chatbots that do not need human involvement to ensure smooth operation to advanced technologies such as self-driving cars. Fact is, Artificial Intelligence is everywhere, which raises the question-

Are we relying on Artificial Intelligence too much for our everyday tasks, and can we live without it?

AI IN DAILY LIFE

Let’s try to understand the domination of Artificial Intelligence in our daily lives with the help of an example-

Ravi, a management consultant based out of California, wakes up with the sound of his alarm. He instructs Alexa to switch off the alarm and gets out of his bed.

Next, he follows his daily morning routine while asking Alexa to tell him his to-do list for the day.

He then takes out his food from his smart oven that he had put in an hour ago. While eating his breakfast, he checks his email and uses a smart reply feature to reply to all the emails. Now, it’s time for Ravi to head towards his office in his Tesla. On his way to the office, he looks at the satellite navigation to detect the traffic in the roads ahead so that he can use alternative paths to reach his office on time.

He reaches his office where he registers his entry via facial recognition and goes ahead to execute office work, where the devices he works on are using Artificial Intelligence.

After checking out from the office, he goes to the local market to buy some groceries, where he scans a QR code for the transaction. Then, he heads to the gym and checks his Smartwatch that monitors his exercise session. He uses the same watch to monitor his sleep as well.

After coming back home and having dinner, he asks Alexa to set up an alarm for the next day and asks it to remember a list of things for the next day. Finally, he instructs Alexa to switch off the lights and goes off to sleep.

We, like Ravi, are surrounded by a variety of Artificial Intelligence-based gadgets, such as apps for streaming music online, product recommendations on some shopping sites, and social media. Artificial Intelligence is used in a variety of industries, including surveillance, healthcare, finance, and more.

Artificial Intelligence During The Pandemic

A very recent/ongoing example of Artificial intelligence can be seen during the pandemic where Artificial Intelligence came into effect in the form of early warning and alerts, prediction and detection of the outbreak of diseases, real-time disease monitoring worldwide, analysis and visualization of spreading trends, prediction of infection rate and infection trend, rapid decision-making to identify the effective treatments, study and analysis of the pathogens, and drug discovery. All these are executed at a great pace solely due to the use of Artificial Intelligence.

DISADVANTAGES OF AI

Artificial Intelligence makes our lives easy and efficient but there are negative repercussions of this dependence. Some of the most notable ones are-

  1. Artificial Intelligence reduces our control over our lives.
  2. Artificial Intelligence surveillance can be a threat to privacy.
  3. Artificial Intelligence is taking over low-skilled jobs and may eventually reduce employment by a huge scale.
  4. It takes away our cognitive skills, and our decision-making power will be limited if we are too dependent upon Artificial Intelligence .

CONCLUSION

There is no denying the fact that Artificial Intelligence is the future. The dependence of human beings on Artificial Intelligence is increasing exponentially and will continue to do so with future advancements in technology.

Artificial Intelligence has turned out to be a double-edged sword for human beings but if used judiciously, it can enhance our lives significantly without having to face its numerous repercussions.
